Status Quo Bias

Closely related to the disposition effect, the status quo bias refers to our reluctance to give up the status quo even in situations in which it would clearly be beneficial to do so. It is a cognitive bias in which we reveal a preference for the current state of affairs. The status quo is taken as a reference point, and any change from this is perceived as a loss which prevents us from taking the best decisions with regard to the future.
